Jan 22: Home

We got the call at 11am today - the owner of the house we were squating at needed it for the weekend. We had 5 hours to move out - so we rushed back, cleaned up our stuff (I had just gone grocery shopping), did the laundry and were out before dark. Our house has no heat, hot water, or accessible kitchen... but we quickly learned those are not the things that make a "home". They are the things that make the home comfortable. What makes something home is familiarity, a kind of inner comfort.

Stephen had already set up the TV room and so we scurried about setting up the bedroom and office, and plugging in space heaters. Kitty was pretty tweaked out from the car ride and all of the new smells and construction equipment. While we were setting things up, he was turning his white paws gray with dust and smudge.

The bedroom is a lot smaller than our old place, but since it only needs to function as a place for sleeping and not the other viable room in our home, it isn't a big deal. It's nice to have our bed, our sheets, our pillows. And once we got it all set up and laid out Kitty's favorite blanket, even he immediately knew we were home.
