Jan 2: Undercover

Kitty is a pretty curious, adventurous cat... except when it comes to the car. He gets really stressed out to see the world whizzing by, and after pacing around the seats wailing, he ends up in my lap, squished into a ball, panting.

Unfortunately, we had to move him from Brooklyn to Westchester, and then two days later, we moved him from one temporary house to another. Not only does the extra car trip wear him out, but he has to spend the rest of the day sniffing every corner of the new place. And although our last interim house was very modern and upscale, this one is just as nice in a restored-home kind of way, and it is twice the size. Kitty has been on double duty trying to get down every scent of every corner on every floor.

When he gets exhausted, sleeping on a rug or couch just won't cut it. At the lakehouse, he would hide in the linen closet in the bathroom, tucked away from any hints of danger, to escape the stress of being in a new place or the occasional canine visitor. So we weren't surprised when Kitty went undercover at this house - he clearly needed a place to completely relax and feel safe. We were just a little surprised that his new declared retreat was literally under the covers
