The renovations at our new house aren't ready yet and Stephen's friend's country house where we will be staying in the interim wasn't available either, so we awoke on new years in a dreamlike, temporary-interim housing situation: in the guest house of a co-founder and former Chairman of HBO.
Our wonderful contractor arranged for us to stay there and it was not lost on us that our inaugural nights in Westchester were spent in a guest house that is nicer than any "real" house we will probably ever own. Radiant floor heating, fancy steam shower, lush decor - all settled on 8 acres in the middle of a secluded wooded area. This is a picture of the snowed-over pool and the corner of the tennis court, right outside the guest house door. It was almost like a posh spa getaway - a reward for making it through a hectic time.
We are lucky to have such generous and kind people around us, going out of their way to help us when we were really stuck and facing being homeless (with a mortgage.) Although we may never afford an estate like this, we certainly have all we need and then some. Coming off of the chaotic end of 2009, it was a lovely way to start 2010... all nestled and warm - inside and out.
