Feb 14: Adult/Child
Tonight, we had our first overnight guests. Stephen's high school friend Jeff came to stay with his daughter, Ella, who is 6. Jeff went to Nicaragua with us last February, and spent 2 weeks with us at the lake this summer - 1 with Ella. So by now, he's my friend too, and I was really excited to have them.
I was also excited to show off our guest room linens. Ella had a cough - and she's getting older - so Jeff slept on our robo-bed in the office while Ella got to enjoy the splendid purpleness of the guest room. Two guests in two separate rooms - with doors! Very exciting.
For dinner, we went to Belizzi - basically a mom & pop Chuckie Cheese with waaaay better food. It actually started as Pizza Pizzazz - a family friendly pizza place, and then it took over the two storefronts next door. The first is a romper room for kids age 5 and under and the second is an arcade where you play games (many fun old fashioned ones as well as a few updated racer-type ones) and win tickets that you can redeem for cheap plastic "prizes". Ella had an awesome jump shot and we killed it at the basketball game. But alas, it was not enough to win the Hello Kitty doll she wanted, so she settled on a plastic dog and a jumping toy.
The best part, though, was really the food. This place does it right - finds that balance between kid friendly and still appealing to the adult palette. We had 2 pizzas between me, Jeff & Stephen (Ella had chicken fingers and chips): one fancy mushroom, one brussel sprout. That's right, I said brussel sprout pizza. It was delicious!
I can't wait to bring my nieces here in April when they stop by on their way to Pennsylvania.
