July 9: Parade

Sometimes we see signs of poor planning and lack of perspective around town. We were having dinner at the Diner when we heard word of the parade coming through. Quick to not want to get trapped downtown, we quickly finished dinner and moved to the other side of town for dessert. Turns out it was a fireman's parade -- a gigantic, well attended parade, bringing folks from towns and counties all over.

We got to talking to the restaurant owner where we were having dessert... not only had the town not warned him this would be happening FRIDAY AT DINNER TIME but they failed to notify him that all roads would be blocked and none of his patrons with reservations would be able to park any where near the restaurant.

We scoffed at the ridiculousness of the parade - especially the timing. But on our way out, we stopped at a corner and watched for a little bit. And I have to say... I actually enjoyed it. The music, the rhythms, the color guard/flag teams. It was pretty fun. Just would have been a whole lot better on a Saturday morning when we weren't trying to get somewhere.
