In January of 2005, I spent a month in Kisumu, Kenya as part of a six month project for business school. Along with 4 teammates, we helped rural community groups learn about running micro-businesses - to help the CDC with their distribution of medical supplies (such as chlorine for water purification).
Alie Eleveld, the Executive Director of Safe Water and AIDS Project (formerly SWAK), hosted us. I've kept in touch over the years and Alie was in town for the BlogHer conference. I went into the city to meet up with her and we had a wonderful dinner and a great time catching up.
